CAREGIVER ON DUTY

>> Monday, December 22, 2008

went to the consultant doctor today.DR. ABRAHAM WEISSE (VIEZ) is his name in GERIATRIC DEPARTMENT of BEILINSON HOSPITAL in PETAH TIKVA.He is a great doctor that my employer has no doubt of him and she's following everything what he said to do so.Sometimes intelligent person like this is a very hard or not easy to deal with even though who you are because she knows a lot of things.

He is the only doctor I've known since I arrived in this country talking to caregiver like me.In my previous employers there's no one asked me about the status of my patients. They just ignore what I'm reporting. So since then I'm just silent every time we went for check up in my previous works. But it changes the ways when I came to this employer now.

We left home at about 12 noon and went back home again at 3:30 pm.It was a tiring trip for my employer but we needed to be there to the appointment schedule.RUVI, the youngest son was always accompanied us.Three months ago that we've there in a results of everything is fine. Today it is less than what been before in terms of health status. There is a slight signage of mild stroke that need to watch. Two weeks ago she has a reddish tongue that she almost not eating properly. All foods was processed to a blender so she could easily swallow until it backs to normal.By now she ate but not totally like before three months ago.She is already 95 years old that there is a lot of things we expect like others of desame age. She's still fine as of this moment. No worries just need to watch closer before it get to worse.

FIRST DAY of HANUKKAH and........etc.

December 21,2008-SUNDAY- its DOUGHNUTS FESTIVAL yesterday morning when I went to the city, everywhere you can see a lot of doughnuts or SUFGANIYOT on display.First day of candle lighting of Hanukkah and every body was buying doughnuts, colored candles, potatoes, flour cake, etc. It is just desame as Christmas rush shopping in the market place,in supermarkets, bakeries and other stores for gifts.

But in the afternoon all radio and tv stations broadcast was terrible.Again rockets flying from GAZA to nearby towns of ISRAEL borders. Its different moods of celebrating Hanukkah in that place. Its should be children's affair and the most happiest moment during this celebrations but it ruined by this rockets.

Evening news time...politicians are all in their own ways of campaign as they started to go around in preparations to national elections this coming February 2009.A lot of different stories in every aspiring candidates in different locations they've choose.

I went back to work at past six o'clock in the evening. My employer was not home. They were in the hall celebrating the first candle light and watched games of children's from age 12 years and below. They did a lot of fun games that my employer enjoyed watching it.Like doughnuts eating contest, lighting candles passes to next child ,blowing balloons to let the candle lights off, etc.It is nice to see children's that they all wanted to be contestants of every games.

IT'S A "DO NOT EAT" FESTIVAL FOR THOSE WHO WAS DIAGNOSE WITH DIABETES AND TO ALL WHO ARE ON THEIR DIET LIFE.SUFGANIYOT means FATS AND CALORIES for them that they need to avoid or it is prohibited to them.

HANUKKAH AND CHRISTMAS in COMMON

>> Friday, December 19, 2008

HANUKKAH means a Jewish celebration of lighting 8 candles in eight consecutive days. Its a family of togetherness, the triumph of religious freedom, light, and miracles. Lighting the menorah, saying blessings and followed by food festivals and games.

In Christianity it is a celebrations of when the savior was born. The family was trying to get together for dinner and going to church especially the mid-night mass.Exchanging gifts and greeting cards, reconciliations, etc.

DECEMBER 2008 celebrations is in the same week in both calendar of JUDAISM and CHRISTIANS.Below are the things in common that I saw and served as symbol of this celebrations.

CAREGIVER GETS SUICIDE

>> Thursday, December 18, 2008

DECEMBER 17,2008.Nine thirty in the morning when one caregiver found dead by the daughter of her employer hanging herself inside the bathroom. The daughter was living just nearby them said that around seven o'clock in same day they saw this caregiver feeding the cats outside. But around nine o'clock when the old woman woke up ,there's no caregiver around as like before that she saw it before the day started. The old woman called and asked to her daughter to come to look for her where abouts.Suddenly they found her inside the bathroom. They called the neighbor caregiver also from Philippines and the police.

I cannot find any news from leading newspapers today or yesterday. So I called up some of her closest friends.I was so concerned about these because I know her very well.DIVINA INCHIONG is from Balayan,Batangas. She has two kids, a boy and a girl, 7 and 6 years old only.Last month we meet in Asian store and talked ,have a kiddie jokes that she's getting younger than to her employer. Its a jokes that every caregiver here saying of we are look alike to our employers especially those working for how many number of years with them. The flat of where she was staying during the day off is desame where I am also staying for few hours and sometimes I used to sleep in that flat.Just less than a year there was another woman got sick and died in the hospital who was staying on this flat also.

Early morning of Dec. 17, 2008 Divina called a friend saying that she is badly needed money before the day ends. She needs to pay a co-worker that guaranteed her to one local financier. It sounds that somebody is making pressured to do the payments. She also said to that friend that "PLEASE PRAY FOR ME" , this is an ordinary phrases that we can heard to everyone here so she don't mind it. So, this friend answer her "okey I will" in hurry because its already start a working hours. They usually talked about the things they both in common and the big amount of money that she borrowed everywhere.

As of this moment I never heard to anyone of when and how she will be send home.

TOURIST BUS TRAGEDY KILLED 25 on the spot, injured 33.............

>> Tuesday, December 16, 2008

News time that my employer watched everyday started at 5 p.m. that horrified both of us when the 25 fatal bodies in white bags flashes on screen.Tourist bus carrying Russian citizens that just arrived from St. PETERSBURG airport and was en route to EILAT when the accident happened.Bus plunged in almost 100 meters down from the road. From illustration on tv, driver was supposed to overtakes the bus ahead of them that he did not noticed the curve.Driver tried to control but its too late to regain in its course then they fall into barrier.Driver was still alive but denied of over speeding and overtaking when interviewed by channel 2.It said that this is the worst road accident ever in ISRAEL.While watching the whole story, me and my employer is exchanging inhale and exhale or in a deep breath every minute. She's not afraid, she told me of how the family's feelings of losing instantly like this.

After the news I went to my room and PRAY FOR ALL WHO DIED ON THE SPOT TO REST IN PEACE.For all injured passengers hope they will all fine and cure their wounds in a short period of time.

We are always having trips and tour especially this holiday seasons. In the past few trips and tours we're all happy and safe back to work to our employers. When our driver started the engine we also starting to pray for safety of our trip. The first prayer we cited was to guide us especially the driver along the way to where we will go.Praised God!Amen!amen!he always granted us and always be...

FEW INCIDENTS DURING DAY OFF

>> Sunday, December 14, 2008

Sometimes it hurts what local people did us and showing us not equal between others.Attitudes towards us that we don't even know of why and how to deal with.We understand by avoiding them and we always put in our minds and thought of because we are in foreign land.

Yesterday, I spent my day off with some of my friends in far distance city. Then after lunch I am already in a nearby city where I am working.Me and my friend went for a walk in the tourist area.We just go around and a window shopping even it is freezing cold.We went to a foreign currency changer because I need to send my family for their christmas preparations.I ask the teller that I need an amount in dollar, she gave me the equivalent in local currency (shekels). She told me to wait for a few minutes, but more than 15 minutes sitting there makes me nervous. All passers by are looking with us,so I asked again the woman. She answered me sarcastically "We don't have that amount ,if you want I'll give you 200$ only".For God Sake we waited for almost 30 minutes then she answered me like way.

Again ,we went to another money changer on the other side of the street. They don't have when I asked that certain amount. She told me also that I'm only allowed for 200$. I don't understand why, but when we supposed to leave two men entered then asked for bigger amount than my needs. And they have it!I'm supposed to confront the teller # 2 but my friend stop me and we went out in that place.Sometimes I don't understand why they under estimated us.I hate some people here like that. But there is also that very kind to us and appreciated our works.

So..next we went to the last currency exchanger and we've got there the lowest rate compared to the two places where we've been. Our hatred and tiredness was paid off.I'm not looking for the cheapest exchange rate.We don't have choice what ever the rate was. What I mean is to be fair in assisting clients. Then after all those trails that we encounter we went immediately to the post office and in a matter of few minutes it will be close. It is the same location area and just a few steps away from the foreign currency changer.

On the way to the central bus station, there's another incident. I remember that I need to buy a plastic mattress cover of my old woman's bed.I asked the receipt and I staple it in the item. That is my old woman's attitudes every time I bought something for her then she needs to pay me back.It is always put on the side of a tag price the official receipts and the receipt should be looks new.I told to the cashier that I need to do like this because my old woman was very intelligent.I was surprised when she answered me "She is not intelligent, she's weird ".And I answered that I don't have the right to say something especially my work.Yes, you don't have but I/we has no limits, she told me again.I don't know why she acted that way.I told nothing to her ,its my first time to enter and bought something in that store.I never said that I'm working with somebody here to the mother of one political idol. But most locals here knew that we are working mostly to an elderly. We caregivers are just giving all the elderly what they wanted to be or what they likes. It is sometimes against our heart and our minds but it is they way it should be.So we follow all things that they told us. Outside or inside our work place especially if it is the stuffs needed by our employers.

But there are times of funny-happy days going around the city. There is someone calling us in tagalog words. Some vendors are talking or makes some sales talk of what they have in their store. It is a big day and makes a fresh breath once in a week going outside or step away from working elderly.

Here, the round wooden handrail was inserted to a metal casts with a distance of few inches to each images of all zodiac signages. It said in some believers that any wish will come true by saying it silently ,holding your own zodiac sign and you should looking at sea.I just raised my hand saying PRAISE GOD!AMEN!AMEN.

CAREGIVERS WORKING PERMIT

>> Thursday, December 11, 2008

I got my email today, there is a good issue regarding the situation of foriegn workers here. It's been a long time that I'm searching for this issue. I always heard from my co-workers about this court rulings for caregivers. It is good idea for me to repost a partial issues of this topic that the higher court approved. My concerned is simply saying that my readers are not all readers of JERUSALEM POST too.I want to send this messages to the families of all foriegn workers that this is the law about caregivers status as of this time.

THE JERUSALEM POST news dated:DEC 10,2008.
Justice Ministry official: High Court responsible for lack of updated immigration law

(ommitted paragraphs in this portion are not related to caregivers rights)

In another case , ATTORNEY YOCHI GNESSIN said there is a law that allows a foreign caregiver to work in Israel for five years and three months.

-------------------- "5 years and 3 months"--------------------------

However, if the patient still needs care in the last year of the caregiver's permit, the caregiver may stay as long as is needed by that particular patient.

Over the years, however, there has been a development in which after the patient dies, manpower companies find new work for the caregiver. From this point on, the caregiver is an illegal worker.

In one case, after about a year of looking after a new patient, the patient's family asked the Interior Ministry to extend the caregiver's work permit on the grounds that the patient had become attached to her.

The case reached the High Court. The petition was rejected by a vote of two-to-one, but Justice Ayala Procaccia voted in favor of allowing the caregiver to remain in Israel.

CAREGIVER of HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR:10yrs&10mos.!!???

24 hours, 7 days a week, day and night with an emotional sacrifices of private caregivers.Doing their best weapons in care giving with love and concerned makes this Filipino worker stay strong until the end of his journey in HOLY LAND and the death of his employer.

SURVIVOR ABRAHAM ARONZUN from POLAND was one among the thousands escapees during Hitler's regime and the last judgement in consecration camp.He was the only one survivor in the family.Parents, brothers and sisters was left behind before he joined the group to escape straightly going to ISRAEL.Lately all of them was never heard what was happened and surely said died in the said camp.

CAREGIVERS like us working 24 hours to an employer are the great listener ,an avid fans and loyal audience in story telling times. Its a part of the work we play but it is the memory rewinding to all elderly that oftentimes needed to do.Great moments and great memories that this Filipino worker will not forget until the end of his life and his extending families. They are a part who received the benefits of all these sacrifices.Having and owned house, children's and grand children's finished studies, and to all of those given helps in time of emergencies and everything the worker have this time was because he owe all of these from the life of one holocaust survivor.

I can't imagine how did this worker make it for 10 years and 10 months in one roof together to a paralyzed and demanding kind of humans.I am wondering but not measuring how many patience he put onto it in every hours of the day.An early morning wake up ,preparing everything like food, cleaning the house, taking breakfast, need to bring lunch, taking shower before they go.He prepared all of these things for himself and for his employer too in same period of time.Everyday they went to an elderly club in not far away from where we live.Almost 5 hours of staying in the club then went back to the house. He have his own way of becoming physically fit thru biking for 30minutes or sometimes walking and jogging around the village while his employer was resting. He himself has a maintenance medicine for his high blood pressure. We are just neighbors of more than 3 years here in this village. Sometimes the whole week I never saw or talked to him while we have 5 meters distance from one door to another. In some occasions we gathered together with other workers for a short talked with drinks and cooked our own native food.

A WONDERFUL BLESSINGS

>> Tuesday, December 09, 2008

PRAISE GOD!!!!(image courtesy of spiritual graphics) A WONDERFUL BLESSINGS I RECEIVED EARLY MORNING TODAY.WITH THE STRONG WINDS AND BOUNTIFUL RAINS CAME AND SHOWERED US BEFORE WE START OUR DAY. My supervisor returned my passport with one (1) year working permit written on page 14. Another year of hard work ,additional future of my 3 children and a lot of challenges that i need to survive it all again. As I always said and in all my prayers that GOD IS ALWAYS WITH ME AND THERE'S NO IMPOSSIBLE TO HIM!AMEN!AMEN!!.

Yesterday's headache was gone because of my blessings early morning today.I spent my 20hrs since yesterday of changing my template. I choose from ready layout on other site. But late night it came out nothing and disappointing.I'm tired already , I feel my head was paralyzed and not responding anymore.I saw on the wall clock its 2 a.m. already. So , I stop and sleep.Around 6 a.m. again I woke up with drinking coffee in front of my laptop.I promise to my self that I will finish it before the end of this day.But when the BLESSINGS came it changes my mind to put it back again my previous design.Hardly and confusing but it takes as an easy way.

I started my daily routine early with happy and smiling face. Before my old woman woke up I already finished cleaning all parts of the house and the only thing I need to do is to clean her room after she takes shower and her breakfast.

THANKS BE TO GOD!.

the PECAN TREE and his NUTS

>> Monday, December 08, 2008

Pecan tree at about 5meters distance in my work's main door. During summer time i don't need to clean everyday outside. Today's weather , sunny but windy and most of the fruits are ready to drop together with the leaves until the portion of our roof has so many dry leaves falling. Many people here told that the nuts of this tree has big help to my health. It has magnesium, good for diet,it helps lowering cholesterol, its has ingredients that protect skin from infections, it has also vitamins that protects against cancer, it has also anti oxidants, etc.

Few minutes ago i picked up some nuts ,as you can see the picture with the human shadow on it,its me taking pictures under the tree. Its a big tree,as i estimated of more than 2000 board feet of good or commercial lumber you can get.

Here are the nutritional value and information that we can get in every 100g of PECAN nuts we are eating.

PACMAN DID IT AGAIN !!!!

>> Sunday, December 07, 2008

{image:photobucket} Dec. 07, 2008 MONDAY>Another historical event added and written early morning today in the world boxing association.A history that presented by one Filipino citizen proved to the whole world that there is a flag hanging and swaying in other side of the globe saying that "PHILIPPINES IS STILL ALIVE & KICKING!!" As we seen the preview on television shows how the PACMAN work and fight on the ring.A work that no need to talked but just to fight with brain works at the desame time.I remembered few years ago, one journalist wrote an article world wide about PACMAN's accent on how the way he delivered his words after winning the match. It hurt so much to read an articles like that. Sometimes words are not the tools to be a winner but it is the work you rendered.

In some parts of the world we are underdogs ,sometimes insulted by few but we are living in good faith and handwork's for our own happiness and success. Working in less costs of works we rendered, we are happy and proud.I'm proud to be a born Filipino citizen.A hero of the latest generations, working hard to help and build our country in the ways where it should be.Go..Go...Go...pilipino.Kayang-kaya natin e2.

MABUHAY TAYONG LAHAT!.CONGRATULATIONS!.

myBEAUTIFUL EYES hasFEVER

>> Saturday, December 06, 2008

I have a night dream last night that my eyes was burned. I woke up early and immediately grasps my eyes. It was so painful!.I felt there is a fever and like a fire burning inside.Nervous but in control , I grab a bottle of mineral water under my bed and drink it first then put some drops on my eyes.I stood up holding in the window frame and took a capsule of pain reliever on my medicine box .I sit down and took a lot of deep breath and stand up trying to move my whole body.It was all okey except my eyes.I don't have any headache for that moment or any pains in some parts of the body.

After 30 minutes I manage to go to the comfort room.I washed my face with cold water and again put some drops into my eyes.I need to move and do my daily routine.Life in abroad is not like in our own home in our native land.So , after 3hrs of cleaning ,preparing breakfast , I feel my head starts aching.Still in good determination I manage to have again another capsule of pain reliever. While I'm doing shower to my employer , the daughter in law came to check and brought fruit shakes.Until I finished everything . I don't know if she noticed something.I went to shower that usually I did after my daily routine.

After lunch , I remember to put a wet (boiled water) tea bag on eyes if there's something uncomfortable. Not totally the medicine to cure but it serves like a pain reliever. A little bit better than this morning but still I felt now as if I'm just finished crying.I will wait until tomorrow that the nearest optical clinic will open .Today is weekend here and most establishment are closed.First day of the week here is Sunday.

Anyone can tell what to do? Maybe someone have this experience too? Pls write a few words what to do ? All comments will deeply appreciate. Thanks

ELDERLY CLUB

Once a month most elderly in this village gathered on these place called "MO'ADON SHESHIM".They are not complete attendance this time because some of them went to voting centers as they have an internal election for labor party today.Few of them are not feeling well in season like today, a very cold night and the daytime was too hot and windy.A temperature that most elderly had a hard time to overcome.

Rina Barkai, sitting far right with blue scarf was the major speaker of all times. They are discussing all the experiences and some historical people who brought out the legacy of their culture and traditions. It is a kind of memory rewinding for elderly here as they are talking most inspirational stories regarding Judaism. The most important and last part of the session was singing.I'm happy to see my employer, sitting first in front right, singing together ,swaying their heads and sometime clapping their hands thru the melody of the songs they sung together. And last but not the least is the snacks of all times,I'm always joining them during snack times. Sometimes I also sitting inside together with them that I've learned few things of their origin and their history.

Sitting on the center was my superior,ELI BARAK.I called it that way because he is our supervisor for all pilipino workers in this village.A very calm and slow talking man that I always respected. He is the one who fixes our legal papers, sometimes he is a carpenter when something i broke in my work, drives us to the doctor together with my employer in far hospitals appointments.Best thing with him was he never yelled at me at all.Very supportive also in terms of work.

Lastly, all these elderly are my good Friends here inside these village.I have a great time talking to them. A lot of stories being told and I'm a good listener too.

VOTE FOR A BETTER NATION.....

>> Thursday, December 04, 2008

A 95 years old citizen in the STATE OF ISRAEL went to vote for choosing 8 more members of LABOR PARTY line-up in preparation for FEBRUARY 10,2009 national election. While her eldest son, a defense minister is on live broadcast interview in nationwide tv news today. There is military operation in BEIT MERIDEN in HEBRON,WESTBANK. All peoples living in that house as i heard was mostly a JEWISH citizen.I always seen in the news about what is going on there and its only now i understand. The higher court ordered them to leave the place but they are still resisting to stay.It is not my business anymore to know more or widen story beacause i'm not a citizen either a voter to this land.

I dont have any personal intensions regarding this incident but i dont have any choice though. It just happened that i'm working to a mother of one among how many politicians here.I myself HATES politics,i dont vote either when i was in my homeland.I felt guilty when my employer answered me everytime i asked her since i started to work with her. She narrated a story , since the liberation of ISRAEL,it was on November 29, 1947 the UN agreed to partitioning the land into two states: Israel and Palestine.Israel accepted, the Arabs did not.Since she migrated here she's always went to vote and since the LABOR PARTY was formed she is a loyalist voter of this group.I asked her WHY UNTIL NOW AT YOUR AGE? she replied calmly "NOT JUST BECAUSE OF MY AGE NOR MY SON IN POLITICS BUT FOR A BETTER NATION ON THE FUTURE" . I took a deep breath for my next question, i'm on teary eyed that momment. She's amazing until this late stages of her life. She's still knows who will be the best and her loyalty to the labor party.

Let us follow this story until national election will come on 2009.

TRADITIONAL MASSAGE (hilot)

>> Wednesday, December 03, 2008

SEVERE PAINS in portion of Pubis Symphysis,Iliac Crest,Anterior Superior Iliac Spine,Greater
Trochanter of Femur down to Lateral Epicondyle of Femur,Patella,Head of Fibula,Tuberosity of Tibia,Anterior Shaft of Tibia, Medial Malleolus and Lateral Malleolus that one fellow worker came late night to my work place. Also at desame time their are a lot of muscle pains wherein that portions or between the waistline down to the foot. These are the common complains of all caregivers especially those working with bedridden patients. They are lifting it manually for how many times in their 24hrs duty and for how many days in a week. There are also complaining of backpains.

This type of massage using a piece of ginger and few drops of any kind of oil is always our practice in the Philippines.I grown up with my grandfather doing this everyday in our house.Everytime that there is patient coming, I'm always watching how to do it until lately i'm already called an ASSISTANT.Its not a game to play but its a hard work that always affect the mind and putting a lot of energy of who's performing it.Time that i grown up ,i dont like to do it anymore except for emergencies or if in case accident is around.

Late last night my fellow and neighbor worker here knock at the door asking favor to bring a friend from a nearby village. He believed that only me can do it for the meantime because i did it to him before ,it was a year ago maybe. This guy of his early age of 30's working in a two (couple) disabled patients.Few days ago,he relates, that he lifted the old man on the bed ,maybe in the wrong positions of the legs or the body is not aligned where it should be.He cannot bend his body, even tying the string on his shoes, he can't do it anymore. He is on C type of body standing already .I'm not making money on this neither doing this to all who's asking everywhere. It depends on my FAITH who's who or whom will i suppose to do it.After the session the only thing i could asked is to give me the least or the smallest amount of coin from your pocket and please follow what I'm telling to do.

They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary
Because it means you've made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are
also thankful for the setbacks.

GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings."

myPARTNER 'N myWORK

Everyday I'm always talked to this lady, her name is OKIE.She is so supportive to me in all of my needs her in my work. She is the one making all appointments to the doctors, buying medicines, drive us to the city in some medical clinics and sometimes she's helping me to buy my own personal needs and appointments to the insurance company in times that I'm not feeling well.I called her as a WONDER WOMAN!.Even though night time that i needed help, she's always coming to explain to my employer. She's not eating junk food and even meat.At the age of 63 yrs old she manage to have a regular jog/walk exercise almost everyday.Skinny looks of about 48 kilos in weight but stronger than me that I'm 75 kilos in weight.Around the area she's always on her bicycle with her stuffs going to her office.I'm so lucky to have work in this village because most people here are helping me if there is something to fix or things that i needed.

Around 1 o'clock today we went to the parlor for SAVTA's(grandmother) haircut and hair dye.It takes for more than 1 hour waiting until it finished. She looks tired and sleepy when we reach home.

DEAR CAREGIVER

>> Tuesday, December 02, 2008

I want to share this poem to my fellow caregivers around the world. Calling them to write something of what's really going on of working in an elderly especially those who are staying 24hrs duty like me.As we always said caregivers are the hero's of all sick and elderly for giving such cares that always there every hour of the day.I also want to give credit to the author of www.helenemoore.com for letting me to repost these to my site. Not all of her readers can also be mine. I wish and hope soon i can read that book of hers.Below is the poem she made for us my dear caregivers.PLEASE READ.....

Adopt A Caregiver.

Give the gift that lasts forever, and costs nothing. If you make any New Years resolutions, please think about giving back. Adopt A Caregiver is the perfect way to do this.

Look around your community, surely there is someone there who is a caregiver. All it takes is an email to let them know you care, that you are thinking about them.

I encourage every caregiver to write in a journal. write three things you are grateful for. Yes, you can find a few things to be grateful for. Even as I was going down that long caregiving road, when I wrote in my secret journal, I found things to be grateful for.

And now, I am most grateful that I did publish my book, Behind The Mask, because it is every new caregivers story.
Because of my book, I have vowed to make my vision for the future of caregivers to be a better one. We can’t wipe away all their tears, but we surely can help them.

There are so many ways to keep in touch. You will find friendship and rewards coming back to you in ways you never thought of. I know, because I’ve done it all.

Keep love and kisses in your life.helene / vhing .
